History GEA Refrigeration 

1858 - 1900

 

• 1858 -- Willem Grasso starts Willem Grasso Steam Stoomsmederij, a forge workshop involved with 
               steam engines.  The company is located in Den Bosch, the Netherlands.

 

• 1860 -- Grasso produces steam engines, tobacco benches, coffee processing machines, flax and
               stone forming machines.

 

• 1863 -- Grasso begins production on machine tools.
 
• 1864 – Grasso begins to manufacture steam boilers.

 

• 1865 -- Willem Grasso installs two horsepower stream engines, which will be replaced in two 
               years when the factory doubles its capacity.

 

• 1869 –- Grasso manufactures the steam hammer for use in other factories.

 

• 1880 -- Grasso manufactures tools for creating butter and margarine.

 

• 1883 -- Willem’s son, Henri studies refrigeration at a technical institute in Mittweida, Germany.

 

• 1888 -- Willem Grasso calls the factory Grasso Steam Engines and Other Tools. 


• 1889 -- Willem Grasso produces an 8 horsepower steam engine.

 

• 1894 -- Henri Grasso takes over the business.  The company begins the production of churn
               kneaders.

 

• 1896  --  The name of the factory is enormous: s-Hertogenbossche Machinefabriek Ketelmakerij en
                 IJzer- en Metaalgieterij Henri Grasso.

 

• 1896 -- Grasso starts a division specialized in refrigeration engineering.
