History of GEA Refrigeration 

1950 - 2000

• 1952 -- Grasso introduces its welded VW-compressor suitable for ammonia, freon and air.

 

• 1958 -- Grasso celebrates its 100 years anniversary.  The company receives the distinguished
               title, Koninklijke (Royal). 

 

• 1958 -- New refrigeration applications are developed for chemicals, mining and transportation.

 

• 1960 --  Grasso takes over Kobach, a contractor.

 

• 1965 -- Grasso starts an installation company.  Its name is Grasso Engineering and Contracting.   
               Or Grenco for short.

 

• 1973 -- The last Van Heijst brother leaves the management of Grasso.

 

• 1975 -- The company begins Grasso Perslucht to manufacture air compressors

 

• 1975 --  Grasso begins manufacturing the Monoscrew.  After many years of successful
                applications, it was removed from production in 1987.

 

• 1976 -- Grasso takes over Schnack, an American manufacturer of cooling and air conditioning 
               compressors.  The company is later renamed Grasso Inc. Evansville, USA

 

• 1983 – The company introduces the Grasso 6 reciprocating compressor.

 

• 1983 -- Grasso celebrates its 125th anniversary.  It now has eight subsidiaries in eight countries.

 

• 1985 -- Grasso is awarded the Henri Sijthoff prize for the best annual report of 1984.

 

• 1985 -- Grasso Perslucht becomes an independent company.  It is now called GrassAir
               Compressoren.

 

• 1987  --  Grasso takes over Matal S.A., a French contractor

 

• 1988 -- Grasso opens PT Grasso Indonesia

 

• 1991 --  Grasso becomes part of the GEA Group, a specialty engineering company in Germany. 

 

• 1994 -- Grasso takes over Kühlautomat Berlin GmbH, one of the largest manufacturers of screw 
               compressors.  Grasso can now produce reciprocating and screw compressors.

 

• 1995 --  Grasso introduces the Grasso 12E reciprocating compressor series also known as The
                Revolution.

 

• 1998 --  Grasso introduces Type Delta, a new big screw compressor.

 

• 1999 --  The GEA Group becomes part of mg technologies group.

 

• 1999 -- Grasso takes over FES, a U.S. refrigeration engineering firm.  GEA is now a global player 
               in industrial refrigeration.

 

• 1999 - Ilka Mafa becomes part of Grasso Refrigeration.  Under the name Grasso
              Kältemaschinenbau Halle GmbH, they produce Grasso chillers.
