The refrigeration system was designed as a booster economised system using a total of eight GEA Grasso screw compressors on the central cooling system and two Grasso heat pump compressors on the hot water system. The system was designed with four different evaporating temperatures and used pumped ammonia for the spiral freezers and low temperature cold store and glycol as a secondary refrigerant for the higher temperatures.
The HT plant has a capacity of 6mw while evaporating at a temperature of 0c, the MT plant had a capacity of 1.2mw while evaporating at a temperature of -16c, the LT had a capacity of 1.2mw while evaporating at -35c and the LLT had a capacity of 1.8mw while evaporating at -43c.
The ammonia heat pump was designed using the GEA Grasso duo pack technology to provide water at +65c for site requirements.
All the air side evaporators were manufactured by Goedhart and plate heat exchangers by Ecoflex, both are GEA group companies.
The condensing of the refrigerant was carried out using six BAC high efficiency CXV condensers.
The control of the complete system is via a bespoke PLC system networked to a purposely designed SCADA package incorporating, system graphics, operating conditions of all areas, real time and historical trending fault logging and auto dial out with system diagnostics from a remote location.
